Intelligence is fleeting for some

A while back I had been friend requested by a same graduating class person who at the time was known to be rather smart. Good grades, on the chess team and was skilled even while in junior high. Generally active in a few scholastically inclined things.

Then after a while on The Book of Faces, it was clear he was a Trump supporter. I mean, really? It's a shame he let those smarts go to waste. Or maybe he smoked something during those formative college years. But it's appalling how low that intelligence went. I doubt he could play chess anymore.

For others I've seen, they've held onto their intelligence and supplanted it with experience and wisdom. So yeah. Work that cranial muscle or lose it.

As for that "friend" on Foosebook? When it was clear our views didn't match, he unfriended me rather than accept he was wrong. (Or dumb)

When Facebook doesn't like YouTube for some reason

Facebook doesn't like various random YouTube URLs ("earls") for whatever reason.

Clues include no thumbnail when you post either the full URL or the shortened mobile URL. And your post of the YouTube link disappears when you put it in a comment and hit Post.

I had once tried to share the link to a comedy clip on YouTube where an old guy operating a computer puts the My Computer icon in the desktop Recycling Bin, and his computer disappears. 51 second video, I thought it was hilarious. But no. It was my first occurrence of seeing Facebook throw up a message where it wasn't an approved URL and wasn't going to let me share it here. And yet the group who had the YouTube channel with this video had a page on Facebook and they were able to share it there!!

Just now I tried to post a link to a decent quality upload of MC Hammer's 2 Legit 2 Quit as a comment. But no. Facebook wouldn't put a thumbnail on the mobile link and deleted the full desktop link when I tried posting that. I had to settle with a link to another but crappy quality upload of the same damn thing.

Now, in the case of the old guy deleting his computer video, there was a place I could tap on (click?) to dispute the verboten status of the link, and I explained what it was and Did they even see this video?? I mean, are you kidding me??

New post after not posting in some time

Finally using a device which lets me log into my account without complaining. I don't like the changes they keep making to the dashboard. Just leave it alone!

I'm still angry about what was stolen from me. That anger and unforgiveness will never go away. If anything, life is more difficult for me. I probably weigh more now than I ever have and I'm not happy about it. Having to isolate because of the corona virus pandemic isn't helping my fitness goals either. I wish Mom was here just to hear her thoughts on things.

I miss my cat Negi. It was only in the last 18 months of our lives together did he finally get the idea he was allowed to jump up on my lap to ask for attention. I loved him dearly. He was the best mouse catcher I ever had.

Every day is a struggle to give a damn and to gather motivation. I just hope I'm not depressed. Back on Bayard, I had more room to move around and more of a distance I needed to walk. It was easier to go outside.

I just want my stuff back.

1994 Lum / UY manga vs 2019 Urusei Yatsura manga

Viz is trying again to publish Takahashi's premiere manga Urusei Yatsura again, this time unflipped and with a new lettering job and translation.

Viz has tried many times to bring the series to English readers for years, but it has never been a successful seller. Admittedly, maybe those attempts (Lum, The Return of Lum, etc) suffered from a bad translation to outright made up text to fit the illustrations.

Hopefully the fan response is favorable this time and more want this series on their bookshelf.

Let's take a look at the 2 books and they can't be more different.

The 1994 book is called a "Pefect Collection," but after reading through the new book, I wonder how Viz could claim this because it's missing 2 stories! Both books are the same until after Oyuki. The 2019 book has a story called 'Eros' after that, then picks up again until it runs into 'Still Waters Run Deep.' I'm wondering what sort of censorship was at play. The 1994 book has 3 more stories. And regardless of these differences, with the 2019 book being thicker, they have about the same amount of content.

The 1994 black and white printing is crisp and on good paper, whereas the 2019 book seems a bit too dark. And you'd think by now we'd get the color pages like the Japanese wideban got.

The lettering in 1994 looks sloppy, so thankfully by 2019, the process has improved, as well as translating. Including notes about the content has thankfully become the norm. In that way, manga is culturally educational.

And by coincidence, both books have very similar pricetags.

Urusei Yatsura ran for 34 tankoubon, so if Viz does 2 per, I expect 17 books in all.

I have the first monthly $3 Lum comic book when manga was published in 32 page chunks, as well as all Return of Lum issues. It will be interesting to see just how far Viz got back then.
